Two SEMs purchased
05.08.2011
Two scanning electron microscopes were purchased during summer 2011
A Zeiss Sigma VP was purchased to Nanomicroscopy Center to act as a easy-to-use field emission SEM for materials science applications. The instrument column is the famous Zeiss Gemini column, which makes operation of the microscope easy. It also features variable pressure mode up to 133 Pa (nitrogen gas), which makes it also well suited for imaging non-conductive samples. This instrument will act as the primary training SEM in the future.
A Zeiss EVO HD LS15 environmental SEM was acquired by Adj. Prof. Quan Zhou for the Micro and Nanorobotics group. The new HD technology by Zeiss makes the LaB6 emitter even better suited for imaging at low acceleration voltages. It features a variable pressure (VP) mode along with extended pressure or environmental mode (ESEM) up to 3000 Pa (water, air, or nitrogen).
